How do I request a mail-in / absentee ballot?

TO REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT TO VOTE BY MAIL: 
1. Download the New Jersey absentee ballot application form.(https://turnout-public-files.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/absentee/states/NJ.pdf)
2. Fill out the required fields.
3. Print the application.
4. Sign and date your application. This is very important.
5. Mail or hand-deliver your completed application directly to your local election office (https://www.voteamerica.org/local-election-offices/NJ)as soon as possible, but no later than the deadline. (It must be received by 7 days before Election Day)

TO REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT IN PERSON: 
 • Contact your local election office (https://www.voteamerica.org/local-election-offices/NJ)to find out where to request a ballot in person. The deadline to apply is 1 day before Election Day at 3PM.

How do I return my mail-in ballot?

In NJ, you also have the option to hand-deliver your ballot by Election Day to one of these locations:

 • A drop box (as Election Day approaches, you can use this Where to Vote tool (https://www.voteamerica.org/where-to-vote/)to find an official drop box)

If you are mailing your ballot: it must be postmarked by Election Day.
If you are hand-delivering your ballot: it must be received by Election Day.

Note: On Election Day you cannot hand-deliver your ballot to your polling place!

What type of ID can I use for in-person voting?

First-time voters must show ID when they vote.

Acceptable forms of ID include:
 • a current and valid photo identification; or
 • a recent utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and current address.

YOU MAY USE YOUR STUDENT ID IF IT IS CURRENT AND SHOWS YOUR PHOTO!

If I moved, do I have to update my registration?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Whenever you move, you need to register to vote with your new address.

You can change your registration online.(https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/register) But if you moved within the past 30 days, you might not be eligible to use it. In that case, you can download your voter registration form and print it instead.

NOTE: All you need to register online is a New Jersey driver’s license, non-driver ID card, or a Social Security number.

The deadline to register online is 21 days before Election Day.
